Auf der Anbieterseite befindet sich das CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System).<br />
Diese Einheit befindet sich in der Regel an der Kopftstelle und ist für die bidirektionale Datenübertragung im Hin- und Rückkanal verantwortlich.<br />
Jedes CMTS besitzt nur eine bestimmte Anzahl von Modulatoren für die Hinkanäle und eine entsprechende Anzahl von Demodulatoren für die Rückkanäle. Deshalb kann nur eine begrenzte Teilnehmerzahl angeschlossen werden (z.B. 5000 - 10000).<br />
Bei großen Kabelnetzen werden Teilnetze (Cluster) gebildet.<br />
